Most households go through many cans of food every year and it’s a shame to see them go to waste. While a lot of people reuse these cans as is without putting much effort into it, creating a lantern out of it is just so much more entertaining. This simple craft creates a fabulous result which is sure to make any space look amazing as well.
What you will need:
- Empty tin can
- A thick nail or a scratch awl
- A pattern drawn on paper (optional)
- Battery operated faux candle
- Spray paint (optional)
Remove any label from the tin can. Clean both the inside and outside thoroughly and wipe it dry.
This step is a precautionary one to make sure the can does not change shape when creating the holes. You can either fill the can with ice or keep the lid on.
Draw dots on the can to form an outline of your desired shape. Feel free to draw the pattern on paper beforehand to make the process easier.
Hammer holes on the drawn dots using the nail or scratch awl.
Remove the ice or lid from the tin can if you followed any of the methods mentioned in step 2.
Clean the can with a dry cloth and spray paint it whatever color you want it to be and let it dry. This step is completely optional, but it does ensure a more polished looking outcome.
For the final step, put the battery-operated candle inside the prepared tin can and watch it beautifully light up.
Whether used during the day to create a warm glow or at night to give a magically lit up effect, this tin can lantern is sure to brighten up the atmosphere it’s in!
