We all have empty cans of food or pringles containers lying around in our houses. Unfortunately, these often end up getting thrown away instead of being reused. So instead of throwing them away why not turn them into cute pen or pencil holders? You could try making this yourself or even have the kids do it as a fun activity.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- An empty can or small pringles container
- Felt paper of any color (here we used black)
- Markers or paint
Take the container and on the felt mark its width. Draw a straight line on the felt to make a strip with the height the same as the width of the container.
Since we’re trying to make a cat themed pencil holder, towards the middle of the line draw two triangular shapes. These will be the “ears”.
Cut out the strip from the felt paper.
Wrap the strip around the container and set it in place with the glue. Make sure to use adequate amount of glue on the edges so that they do not get detached later.
There is no need to put glue on the “ears” since they will not be sticking to any part of the container.
For the final touch, add the details to the felt. Using a marker or paint of a contrasting color (here we used silver) Draw the nose and whiskers. We’ve kept things simple here but for a more refined look you could even draw the eyes and some details for the ears.
And there you have it! An adorable place to put your pens and pencils from something that you might have just thrown away. Since it is very quick to make try making different variations and arranging them together as a set!
